why a school garden

Children learn
by touch, by smell
and the taste of the harvest.

Research is clear: learning by doing is 3× more effective than a traditional lesson. Pupils who plant vegetables themselves eat them. Those who measure a plant’s growth understand biology.

A gfood school garden is not an art project. It is a teaching tool that engages science, biology, maths, chemistry, Polish language and health education at the same time. One garden — many subjects.

And what matters most for head teachers and staff: the programme is ready to implement and the school is not left alone with the logistics. Lesson plans, materials and support organise the work instead of adding to it.

73%
of children don’t know where most vegetables come from eaten every day in their homes. A school garden fills that gap — in a way no textbook can.
→ Badania Food Education Society UK, 2023

for whom

For kindergartens and schools —
a clear benefit for everyone.

Choose a perspective first. Below we show separately what kindergartens, schools, teachers and local authorities gain.

A garden that sparks
curiosity from age 3.

In kindergarten there are no tests — only wonder. The gfood programme for kindergartens focuses on discovering nature through the senses: touching soil, smelling herbs, watching seeds sprout. Everything adapted for children aged 3–6.

The materials are ready for the educator — no preparation, no extra workload. Just open the planter and start.

  • Activity cards for children aged 3–6 (picture-based, no text)
  • Plant stories for the educator to read aloud
  • Simple plants: radish, sprouts, lettuce — results in a few days
  • Care instructions adapted to the kindergarten rhythm
  • Email support (4× per school year)

„Children aged 3–6 learn through their senses. A school garden is the ideal environment — here, learning and play are one."

Each package includes a vegetable planter, educational materials and implementation support. A school can join the programme on its own or with a partner co-funding a minimum of PLN 1,000 of the base programme.

Important: we show the price of the programme for the institution. If the school wants, we also help arrange a funding model with a partner or local council — but implementation does not have to depend on it.
